What Is Survey Junkie?

Survey Junkie is a market research company that pays users points in exchange for answering surveys. The information you provide in these surveys helps thousands of companies figure out what products and services their customers might like.

Once you have 1,000 points ($10), you can redeem them for:

  • Cash to your Paypal account (for members in all countries)
  • Cash via a bank transfer (for members in the U.S.)
  • An e-gift card (for members in the U.S.)

Survey Junkie is completely free, and you don’t enter any credit card or bank information when you sign up.

You won’t make a $1,000 fast with survey companies, but it is a nice way to earn a little extra cash while binge-watching the newest season of Stranger Things.

As long as you’re at least 13 and live in the U.S., Canada, or Australia, you can become a Survey Junkie member. The site has over 10 million members and is headquartered in Glendale, California.

Is Survey Junkie Legit and safe?

Here are a few ways to know if a survey site is legit:

  • Registration is free.
  • You’re not asked to enter your credit card or bank account information.
  • You can google the company and read positive online reviews.
  • It’s established through the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Guess what? Survey Junkie checks all these boxes. It’s a legit way to earn money online.

Plus, you can hop on their website and read all about their privacy policy and terms and conditions.

What Do Customers Say About Survey Junkie?

If you check out the Better Business Bureau (BBB), you’ll see that Survey Junkie has over 1,800 reviews with a 4.32 out of 5-star rating.

There are about 380 filed complaints in the last 12 months, but the company has resolved most of them. (A good sign that they take customer feedback to heart.)

The company has over 33,000 reviews on Trustpilot with a 4.4 out of 5-star rating. Of those thousands of reviews, only 6% rate the site below-average. A whopping 87% of reviews rate the site as “great” or “excellent.”

Positive Reviews

Many people praise the site’s easy-to-navigate layout claiming it’s easy to keep track of your available surveys and progress with Survey Junkie’s sleek interface.

Instant rewards are also a major plus with Survey Junkie users. Many reviewers state using other survey sites where you have to wait 24 to 48 hours to receive payment.

Lastly, people love being able to share their opinions with brands. Many reviews talk about how fun and enjoyable the surveys are.

Negative Reviews

Some common complaints are about people getting kicked out surveys for being disqualified. This happens with all survey sites, but Survey Junkie still gives you a few points if this happens.

Another major complaint is that it’s hard to make money quickly. But, Survey Junkie is very straightforward about it not being a get-rich-quick scheme.

How Do Survey Junkie Surveys Work?

Once you set up your account, you’ll answer a few questions about you and your household. This helps Survey Junkie decide what surveys you qualify for.

After that, you can start answering the surveys on your dashboard. The dashboard tells you the payout and length of time for each survey.

A good rule of thumb is to start with the surveys that have the biggest payout for the smallest amount of time. (This gets you more bang for your buck.)

Survey Junkie will send you emails once it’s added more surveys to your dashboard. You can either click the link inside the email to answer the survey or go directly to your account.

Once you finish the survey, the points show up in your dashboard. Easy, peasy.  And if you start a survey you don’t qualify for, don’t sweat it! Survey Junkie still gives you a few points for your effort.

Types Of Surveys You Can Take

The main way you’ll make money through Survey Junkie is by answering online surveys. These topics range from grocery shopping habits all the way down to what you’re looking for in your next car.

A survey may even ask you to watch an online advertisement and share your reaction. Each survey is unique and many people have fun sharing their opinions through the site.

While online surveys are Survey Junkie’s main bread and butter, there are four other ways you can earn cash:

Product testing

Survey Junkie has occasional product testing opportunities where they’ll mail you a product for free in exchange for your review. You get to keep the product. Plus, you’ll earn $5 to $50 for sharing your experience.

Online focus groups

After completing a survey, the site may ask you to participate in an online focus group. You share your likes and dislikes about a product. Survey Junkie pay $25 to $100 for focus group participation.

In-person focus groups.

You could also be asked to participate in an in-person focus group at a designated time and location. Similar to the online groups, you share your opinions and Survey Junkie gives you $25-$150 for participating.

Phone interviews.

Occasionally the site may select you to complete a phone interview after completing a survey. You can earn $5 to $100 for participating. When you set up your profile, the site will prompt you to opt-in or out of these four additional research opportunities.

Survey Junkie states that these types of opportunities are available once a month at the very most—so don’t expect them often.

How Much Can You Earn On Survey Junkie?

One thing I admire about Survey Junkie is that it doesn’t promise to make you rich overnight. Market research is a thriving industry, but it’s not a lucrative one. Survey Junkie is upfront about this.

Most surveys earn you 2 to 75 points depending on length and complexity. You can earn more money by participating in the occasional product review or focus group (but these are few and far between).

100 points equal $1. If a survey says you’ll receive 50 points, for example, you actually receive 50 cents. You must have at least $10 in rewards points before you can redeem it for cash or a gift card.

To help give you a boost when you sign up, Survey Junkie offers points for setting up a profile and getting familiar with the site.

For example, you get:

  • 150 points for installing the browser extension
  • 25 points for signing up
  • 50 points for completing your profile
  • 25 points for confirming your email
  • 5 points for taking a site tour
  • 10 points each for setting up industry-specific profiles (there are at least 6 of these)

Just by doing the bonus steps during sign up, you can earn 315 points ($3.15) right out the gate!

Why Should I Use Survey Junkie?

Survey Junkie is a convenient way to earn extra money in your spare time. As long as you have an electronic device and an internet connection, you’re good to go.

Stuck waiting in a doctor’s office? Take a few surveys! Watching TV? Take a few surveys. On a road trip? Take a few surveys.

You view the survey length before you start it, so you can choose one based on how much time you have. If you only have 10 minutes to spare before you head back to work from your lunch break, you can take a 5 minute survey.

And if you answer a few questions and find out you don’t qualify, you still get paid (usually around 3 points). This is rare in the online survey space where most sites don’t reward you if you don’t qualify.

The site is also super simple to use. You don’t have to sift through a junkie website to find out what surveys you may or may not qualify for.

Survey Junkie lays all your surveys out in the dashboard so they’re easy to spot.
